We’ve been home in Campbell River for 3 months already. The weather has been cooler and wetter than normal. Is that to blame for my inactivity? Is being retired to blame? You know the old “there’s nothing that has to be done today that can’t wait til tomorrow?”.
As I look back on the last few months I remember my week on Gabriola Island at a workshop called “Develop your Creative Vision”. It was hosted by Chris Harris and Dennis Ducklow. It was fantastic, so creative, so much fun. 13 classmates from Montreal, Ontario, Alberta, BC, Seattle. Quite the collection of photographers young and old but all of us with the ambition and desire to explore new ideas and ways to take different pictures and learn new skills. Multiple exposures. Camera movement (in all directions apparently)… haha…
How much tv have I watched? How many word puzzles have I completed? How many Jigidi puzzles have I completed? (I could look up the stats but won’t). How many books have I read? I’ve done lots of all of these things.
We just got back from a family wedding and a family tree trip thru Alberta and Saskatchewan. Saw Aunts, Uncles and Cousins (some I hadn’t seen in 50 years). It was great to reconnect with my people. Loved all the miles and smiles.
This is a link to a group of photo’s on Flickr which I took while on the Pub to Pub Trail here in Campbell River. It’s called the pub to pub trail because at either end of the walk (45-60minutes) was a pub. BUT, now there are no pubs. Salmon Pt Pub burnt down recently and The Fishermans pub closed down last year. Regardless, there are scads of people out there every day enjoying the scenery. The walk takes you along the Oyster River thru Old Growth Forest and then along the Ocean where the trail ends at Salmon Pt RV Resort. The walk is mostly level, but beware of roots! I’ve seen people pushing strollers and wheelchairs, so it can be done.
Every year on Labour Day Sunday the North Island Cruisers hold their annual classic car show in the streets of downtown Campbell River. It is a fabulous way to see all these great cars all in one place. Here are my some of the photo’s I took. I would post all the pictures I took, but that would be kind of crazy.. haha.
To see the whole album on Flickr just click on the picture of the car and it will take you there!
I got a chance to go up to see the Wings & Wheels show at the Campbell River Airport on Saturday July 16th. It’s a great time to see old classic airplanes and old classic cars. The weather was great and it was fun to see everything. Here’s a few photo’s I took while up there.
I found this cool old car parked at Canadian Tire on Friday, May 13-2016. It’s a 1974 Dodge Dart owned by Shane Schumacher who works at Canadian Tire in Campbell River. I want to thank Shane for making my day and allowing me to crawl around his car and try out my new wide angle lens. You made my day!
Here’s a link to my Flickr site where I’ve made up an album of my photo’s of Shane’s Car.
While stopped at one of the many RED lights on my way to work this morning I observed a stylish young man who is obviously not afraid to stand out in a crowd – actually he would stand out in a crowd in downtown Vancouver!
The lime green shoes were NOT the first thing I noticed..
Nor was it his
frosted blond hair do!
Nope, it was..
Yup, Yes indeedy, it was, a ground length FUR COAT! Way to go young man – you brightened up my day by reminding me that we should all march to our own drummer and follow our heart!
I was recently featured in a magazine called RVwest! The article was called: Campbell River with a camera | RVwest. Here is the link to the article and my pictures that they used. Make sure to click on the dots under the sunset picture to see the rest of the photo’s they chose to illustrate Campbell River and all the awesome photo opportunites here!
Originally I thought that only one of my photos was used and I wrote:
well ok, maybe I am a teensy wheensy bit disappointed that they only chose to use 1 of my photos after asking me to submit up to 10, and it is a free magazine, but I AM STILL TOTALLY EXCITED AND PROUD to be in here, it feels kind of awesome actually! This photo is one of my definite favourites and is at my favorite place to photograph. You can check out the rest of the magazine at RV West Magazine online edition or pick up a paper copy at RV locations near you, I assume.
But, now I find out that if you go on-line and click on the arrow beside the picture that you get to see my other 8 photos!!!, well now, that makes me tickled pink, and I’m even more excited, and more proud of this accomplishment. Thanks everyone for so much support and encouragement. I say it and i mean it! Thank-you, thank-you thanks!!
When you’re heading to work, doing the Dogwood Dash, and you’re late because you (were too lazy to get up on time, spent too much time checking emails, and facebook, dreaming about your Texas vacation, procrastinated over how many pickles to put in your sandwich today, went outside and found ice on your windshield, but couldn’t find the frost scraper).
First light – Red, Second light – Red, Next one yellow (went thru safely), Next one yellow (could have stopped, but didn’t), Next one yellow (should have probably stopped at that one), Next one – Red.
Got me to thinking — Is the universe trying to tell you to SLOW DOWN or GO FASTER??
